HARMAN BACKS FELLOW FOCUS EXHIBITORS
Leading photo-imaging company, HARMAN technology Limited to assist fellow exhibitors at FOCUS ON IMAGING 2009.

As part of its commitment not just to its customers but to the wider photographic community, HARMAN technology Limited is supporting a number of fellow exhibitors at this year’s FOCUS ON IMAGING. Those receiving assistance from the leading photo-imaging company, whose brands include the ILFORD range of black and white darkroom products, the HARMAN PHOTO range of inkjet media and the KENTMERE PHOTOGRAPHIC darkroom range, include at least one higher education provider as well as the organisers of a high-profile competition.

Howard Hopwood, Chairman at HARMAN technology, explains: “HARMAN technology is proud to be assisting a number of fellow exhibitors at FOCUS ON IMAGING 2009. Not only do such partnerships help to reinforce the association between our brands and photo-imaging excellence, but they also tie to our desire to be an ethical manufacturer with a responsible approach. We know our business would be nothing without photographers and so it’s only right that we take the opportunity to give something back.”

In particular, HARMAN has supplied ILFORD darkroom papers to the University of East London in recognition of the University’s not-for-profit nature and its important role in inspiring future photographers. These papers have been used to produce a number of prints of student work which will be viewable on the University’s stand.

HARMAN is also helping one of its distributors, Keyphoto, to stage a special photo-educator event. Taking place on the Tuesday of FOCUS and due to be attended by around 75 to 100 tutors and technicians, this will update attendees on the latest developments in the black and white market. It will also include a presentation from photographer, author and master printer, Andrew Sanderson on ILFORD Masterclasses. These free, one-day events, which take place at colleges throughout the country, offer educators guidance on additional techniques for teaching black and white photography as well as tips on how to inspire a passion for darkroom developed images - even in today’s digital age.

A third and final stand benefiting from HARMAN’s support is that occupied by the international Travel Photographer of the Year Awards (TPOTY). Around 60 prints featuring the winning images from the most recent TPOTY awards will be displayed, all printed on the new HARMAN CRYSTALJET RC paper. This paper, which was introduced in Autumn 2008, offers comparable levels of imaging performance to the acclaimed HARMAN PHOTO fibre based products. However, the fact that it’s a resin coated rather than fibre based product allows it to carry a lower price tag, making HARMAN PHOTO quality accessible to all.

Speaking on behalf of one of the recipients of HARMAN’s support, Ralph Hall at the University of East London said: “HARMAN’s commitment to photo-education is unquestionable. It remains one of the few manufacturers committed to producing products for analogue photography, which has invaluable benefits in teaching students the basics of the craft such as the importance of aperture setting and shutter speed. Their support at FOCUS is just the latest example of this understanding.”

Howard Hopwood adds: “You don’t spend 130 years in photo-imaging without it getting into your blood. If you speak to practically any member of our team, you’ll discover that they’re every bit as passionate about photography as the people who actually use our products. Supporting the University of London, Travel Photographer of the Year and Keyphoto was a natural decision. In an ideal world with limitless budgets, we would support even more, equally worthy individuals and organisations.”

NOTES TO EDITORS –

HARMAN technology Limited is a pioneering imaging specialist based in Mobberley, Cheshire. The company - which was born of the ILFORD formed by Alfred Harman in 1879 - now includes three, separate and well known brands: ILFORD PHOTO which manufactures traditional monochrome photographic products; HARMAN PHOTO which produces a range of high-end inkjet media for both colour and monochrome prints; and KENTMERE PHOTOGRAPHIC who produce a range of photography and inkjet papers, including K.Opaljet.

The ILFORD range of inkjet products, including ‘ILFORD Galerie’, is not associated with HARMAN technology in any way, and is actually manufactured and marketed by a separate business based in Switzerland.
